Building Energy Management Systems

What is the definition of a building energy management system (BEMS)? The global market for building energy management systems (BEMSs) continues to grow as technologies reach maturity and customers gain understanding of the business value generated by investment. Across customer segments, the economic impacts of BEMSs continue to dominate the decision-making process. As the cost of supplemental monitoring and control devices continues to decrease, BEMSs are becoming more cost-effective options for a broader set of customers. Furthermore, these systems generate complementary strategic benefits such as greenhouse gas reductions and sustainability improvements that help support the investment decision. The market landscape continues to evolve as trends such as corporate awareness of the Internet of Things (IoT) and demand for data-driven decision support tools facilitate the adoption of BEMSs. These systems support customer needs with offerings in four categories: visual

Daredevil Window Cleaner

A window cleaner who balanced on a ledge without safety equipment was yesterday named as Colin Elliot. When asked if he ever uses safety equipment, he said: “No, I don’t use safety equipment - it’s not like I do the Empire State Building.” Colin works in the west end of the city and said the tallest buildings he works on are three storeys high. Commenting on those who had questioned his working with no safety equipment, he said: “It’s just from their point of view. I wouldn’t recommend they go out on a window ledge.“If you’re fearful of the activity you shouldn’t do it. I have an exceptional head for heights. Don't hire Colin. Guardian: Associated With Positivity

New Client Relations There has been an upgrade, as well, in Guardian’s direct approach to its customers. Says Christina McGillen, Vice President, Client Relations: “When I joined Guardian, I started reviewing every single role in the company -- accounting, payables, collections, and more. I began exploring Alan’s and Sandy’s accounts, answering their phone calls, seeing clients -- all to make sure that these clients were happy, that their questions were being answered. Then I started going out to meet new clients and bring in new business. Today I have become Guardian’s customer advocate. Every single customer is important to us, and we want them to feel that.” Christina, too, has adapted social media -- within Guardian. “We select our Employees of the Month and our Supervisors of the Month, and broadcast it through these media,” she says. “Many of our employees, of course, already are familiar with these sites – and when they see their fellow employees recognized through them, t

Guardian, A Digitial Social Media Leader

Thought Leadership: The Environment “Today we have more than five hundred Google+, Instagram and LinkedIn followers as well as more than a thousand Facebook and Twitter followers,” adds Kristopher Patterson, Marketing Director, Guardian Service Industries. “And it’s not just one-way communication. We’re having intelligent conversations, interactions. It’s positioning ourselves in a manner we’ve never used before, as a thought leader concerned about the environment as well as about cleaning and securing facilities.” “There are outlets today that enable us to brand our business in a better way than in the old days,” says Jonathan Kessler, Senior Vice President, Sales. “Formerly, you’d just put an ad in the Yellow Pages and Blue Book. Now we use an array of social media platforms: LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Blogger. We can speak out and say what’s on our minds, talk about what we believe to be the industry’s best practices. We have the opportunity to show th

About Guardian...

Guardian as a thought leader... “When I joined Guardian in July, 2014,” says Kristopher Patterson, Director, Marketing & Digital, “all I saw was a firm that provided janitorial services. When I went on their web site, that’s all I saw as well. Yes, that’s an important part of what we do and who we are -- but what goes into it? How do we incorporate the many underlying issues, such as green cleaning, conservation, smart engineering? How do we take the concept of ‘janitorial’ and communicate its many aspects? How do we make the subject bigger, more relevant, than most people are aware of? “It’s like thinking of Google,” he says. “It’s essentially a search engine, but when you think of Google, you think of an innovative product, a leader in its field. We want to do that with Guardian. We want people to think of Guardian as a thought leader in cleaning, in engineering, in making sure your lighting is energy-efficient. It’s marketing not just a service, but the intelligence around

Site to use peer pressure to reduce building energy use

An urban environmental group is putting big city buildings' energy use on display for everyone to see. Metered New York is a website designed by the Urban Green Council, an energy advocacy group, that aims to take all of the data collected by the city on buildings' energy use and make it easy to digest and compare. Billed as a resource for owners and tenants the site will also show which buildings are advancing energy efficiency goals and which are falling behind, as clean energy becomes an increasingly important element in city real estate. "The more sophisticated owners already look at this stuff," said Russell Unger, executive director of the Urban Green Council. "You don't have to be an energy expert to say, 'oh, I'm in the middle of the pack.'" The data comes from a law the city passed in 2009 which requires all buildings over 50,000 square feet to report on their energy and data use each year. It e

Green Buildings Go Beyond Net Zero

Designing buildings that produce more power than they consume.  Buildings consume 73 percent of the United States’ electricity and produce 38 percent of its carbon dioxide emissions. “We need a change,” says Eric Corey Freed, vice president of global outreach for the International Living Future Institute. The gold standard in energy efficiency, known as net zero, calls for every building to generate 100 percent of the energy it consumes, but Freed believes builders can go further. Let Guardian Service Industries, Inc. get you there....   Guardian Service Industries 161 Avenue of the Americas New York, New York, 10013 T. 800.564.9501
